The CRe Digest

Reflection Edition

Leave this YouTube video of "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) playing in the background while reading this Digest. Preferably gather around a bunch of close friends with whom you've read the Digest with each week and sing along.

So this is it. All those Thursday nights we've spent together - me writing the Digest, you eagerly clicking "Send/Receive Mail", are coming to a close. Here are some of my favorite Digests from the last year:

With all those fond memories behind us, allow me to introduce the new Vice President of Communication: Chen Wang! According to her Facebook profile, Chen likes Art, the Golden Compass Trilogy and Rosencrantz and Guilderstern are Dead. Here is a picture that, according to Facebook, is of Chen. To be fair, it's from High School, and I think she's changed her look since coming to college:

Stay tuned next week for more from Chen!

Class of 2008 to sponsor Sports and Recreation at Olin!
Tag! You're It!
The Class of 2008 has decided to make a donation to Olin in the form of sponsorship of sports and recreation programs and equipment over the coming years. The Class of 2008 has pioneered much of the athleticism at Olin, from the early days of the soccer and ultimate Frisbee teams, to inaugurating the EH gym, to taking over floor lounges for 8-minute-abs or power-yoga. The class has thus decided to put its money where its biceps are and donate towards further sports opportunities at Olin. Some possibilities for the use of these funds include equipment or tournament fees for Olin’s sports teams, purchasing and repairing equipment in the gyms in the residence halls, to maybe someday finally putting that swimming pool in on the 5th floor of the Academic Center. Questions or suggestions? Contact Nancy Doremus or Tiana. Now put down your laptop and go get some exercise!
A Cappella Concert coming up!
Power Chords and Clark Bars - it doesn't get much sweeter than that.
Hey everyone,

Next Friday, April 25th at 6:30 PM is The Power Chords' (Olin's a cappella group) final concert of the semester!  This is an event you don't want to miss.  We're hosting guest group The Clark Bars from Clark University and there's going to be some great singing.

Details:
**Who: Us and The Clark Bars (weren't you paying attention?!)
**What: An A Cappella concert (again, you probably got this already)
**Where: The Olin College auditorium
**When: Friday April 25th at 6:30 PM!  Get there early to get the best seats!
**Why: Um…  Because A Cappella is awesome.  Don’t you remember watching Rockapella on the TV show "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" and wishing you could be just like them?  Yeah we wish we could be just like them too…
**How: We DO IT WITH OUR MOUTHS like YOU WON'T BELIEVE

I think that's all - contact me if you have any questions.  Looking forward to seeing you there.
Financial Modeling Babson Course WANTS Olin Students!
9 seats available … will you be in one of them?
Professor Dessislava Pachamanova wants you to know that 10 seats were reserved in the Financial Modeling course for Olin students.  As of April 11, 2008, there are still 9 seats left.  The course meets on Olin's campus on Mon/Wed 5:25-7:00pm.  Register using the cross-registration procedures.

Flyer attached …
Looking for an on-campus job this summer? Work in the Admission Office!
We need one person working 30-35 hours or two people working 15-17 hours. This can be combined with another on-campus job in order to meet the 30/hour week requirement to get on-campus housing. Job tasks include giving a tour each day to prospective families, answering phones, doing data entry, and assisting the staff with glamorous projects like mailings and filing. Still, we’re fun people, and it’s a relaxing place to be.  We’d love to have someone start June 2nd. If you are interested, please contact Caitlin Snow at caitlin.snow@olin.edu for more information.
Submit your photos to the yearbook!
And then buy one so you can see all your pictures.
The yearbook wants your pictures! Pictures from classes, pictures in the dorms, pictures from community service, we want them all! We even want pictures from off campus, as long as they have Oliners in them.

Pictures can be dropped here: \\fsvs01\StudentGroups\Yearbook\Photos\PHOTOS_DROP_BOX. Please let us know that you've done so, so that we can make sure to credit you in the book!

Also, don't forget to purchase a yearbook! The price increases from $50 to $70 on May 1st, which is less than two weeks away. Order forms can be found attached to this Digest, at yearbook.olin.edu, and outside EH 406G.

Thanks for your support!

Who: Carolyn Hotchkiss, J.D., Professor of Law, Babson College

How do business leaders make good decisions that strike the balance between their core values and the core values of the societies where they do business?

BOCE Spring Concert
Keeping old people awake since 2001
Now that Expresso Black has moved, you may be asking yourself what you could possibly do next Tuesday evening…my brilliant solution is to come to the Babson/Olin Chamber Ensemble's Spring Concert! It is next Tuesday, April 22nd, at 8pm in Glavin Chapel (Babson). Olin members of the orchestra are Ginneh Cornelius, Eric Hwang, Nancy Doremus, Ruth Hunter, and Justin Wong. We will be playing a wide variety of pieces including selections from Haydn's Symphony 101 in D major, solos by Ruth Hunter and Justin Wong, and two movements from a woodwind quintet by Reicha. Plus, there will be a performance of Muse's Space Dementia arranged for orchestra by Ginneh. We would love to see you there! (Please?)
P.S. Light refreshments will be served.
P.P.S. Each of our pieces has a composer with a different nationality; that has to mean the music is good!
