CORe Digest
March 31st, 2006
Dear Friends,
It is with great sorrow that I must admit that this week’s Digest will be the second-to-last Digest with me as your VPC. Sometimes I look back on how far Digest has come since then... and I get a little teary-eyed. Other times, I think about all the color and bling that Digest has acquired over the past 12 months, and my heart harkens for a more innocent time. I’d like to lead on a walk down Memory Lane, and commemorate the second-to-last Digest with a review of the second-to-first Digest I ever made.
Let’s take a peak at some short quotes from my introduction (in arbitrary order):
- "good times in CORe"
- "beautiful April morning"
- "have a Nuttella sandwich"
- "several cats killed in the blast"
- "replaced by a slice of befuzzlement"
- "Hamclock"
- "like, a Brazillion marmosets"
Ahh... those were the days.
The headlines, too, were telling of what kind of days we lived in back then:
SERV Election Results Skewed by Planetary Misalignment
E-Board Inaugural Ball Deemed "Too Flashy for Wartime"
The O Mathematically Proven to be Elliptical, not Ovular
Former VPC Grant Hutchins Wakes Up Before He Went to Sleep
Bananas Go Well With Peanut Butter
Honor Board Rules Pwnz0R’d is "Totally Not a Real Word"
All I can say, is that we live in a different time.
In all seriousness, it’s been a pleasure bringing you all the Digest every week. And it is with deep regret that I begin what will be my final weeks as your VPC. If you think you’d enjoy penning this page, there’s still time to get your application in for the E-Board elections. The packet deadline is April 4th.
Have a wonderful week, enjoy the gorgeous weather, and have a Nuttella sandwich for me.
-Mike

Babson Summer Program
What are you doing this summer? Babson College has created a unique summer program called Babson Business Edge for liberal arts, sciences, and engineering students. Babson Business Edge provides you with an opportunity to experience the business world, its language and concepts. Our program is an interwoven experience combining coursework, hands-on experiences and a teamwork and coaching component.
A few highlights of our program are:
- Learn the language and concepts through coursework presented by Babson professors who teach in our undergraduate program.
- Business Simulation gives students an opportunity to “run” a business and see how their decisions impact the business over a simulated 5 year time frame. This is one of three “hands-on” components of Babson Business Edge in which students utilize the information they have learned in a team approach.
- You will participate in a series of exercises demonstrating skills deemed as important by employers. Through this experience they will not only be evaluated in how they perform but also evaluate others. This teaches them to receive and provide constructive feedback with their peers.
Babson Business Edge takes place from May 30th –June 16th. You will be able to spend three weeks at Babson and still fulfill internship and employment opportunities during the summer. The admission application deadline is April 1st. We are offering both need-based and merit scholarships.
Battery Recycling in EH1 and WH2 Trash Rooms

Please let us know if there is a room on campus that could use a battery receptacle and we'll put one there.

Use and care of the Olin Passenger Van
The Olin College passenger van is used by the entire Olin community, including students, faculty and staff. With its use increasing monthly, it is up to everyone to keep it well maintained. The facilities folks will keep it gassed up and in good running order, but general trash should be removed daily by those creating the trash. Also, because of the growing demand and the need to keep the van available for a larger user base, the van is only available for College sponsored use and not available for overnight trips. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with these matters. Questions can be directed to
